Wow! This is a HUGE rocking chair!

This huge rocking chair (Finnish= keinutuoli) is hand made by Veikko Panu, a Finn who immigrated to Lake County during the 1950’s.

Fashioned in the typical Finnish style and made from maple, the chair features an “S” shaped seat, exceptionally thick legs, sturdy arms, a heart-shaped cutout on the chair back, and massive rockers.

Interestingly, a first “Plop” into the chair may frighten you since your feet will leave the floor and you will rock way back to the point where you fear tipping, but of course you will not.  The design will not let you.

The chair was built by Panu when he was over 80 years old.  It is on loan from Eija (Panu) Hewerd who grew up in Concord Township.
