The Social hour started the evening's activities with registration, hors devoures trays, and beer, wine, and soft drinks. Members and guests mingled and enjoyed each other's company. The one topic of discussion that kept everyone talking was the museum and how much it meant to them.

Elaine FHM member Sue Troutman collected, organized, and displayed a wonderful selection for the silent auction which raised additional monies for the general museum coffers. Sue and her husband Jeff also "bartended" during social hour.

Linda Katila and Veikko Malkamäki LKandVM

Linda Katila, a retired school teacher had the original vision. She wanted to recognize the lives and contributions of the Finnish immigrants who came to this country and made a life for themselves and thier families. That recognition she thought, could be done through a museum which would display the artifacts of thier lives, showing not only the hardships, but also the beauty in those lives. She lived to see that happen.

IN MEMORY OF
LINDA KATILA
10/17/1919--8/3/2007

Linda Katila discussed her idea with many people, but no one seemed to take up the torch. In November of 2002, Veikko Malkamäki thought this to be a great idea, and set up a meeting at the Luther Center in Fairport. On November 18, through the efforts of Malkamäki and Ailiin Andrews, Vivian Heikkinen, Raili and Matti Lehtonen, Laura Malkamäki, Niles Oinonen, John Ollila, and Viola Pohto, the museum was born.
